In the early 1970's, trombonist Randy Purcell looked like a wild cave man with his long hair and beard. But as you hear here, he played like an angel.
And we hear Maynard with his legendary beautiful tone and phrasing.
I love this song. 1974?
Randy Purcell played with our Jazz Band when I was in High School. It seems like a lifetime ago but his solo still sounds beautiful every time I hear it. RIP Randy...
this chart was in our book on carninal back when we still had 13 piece bands, maynard's nephew pete was in the band..also a fine player...great chart....mike rinta ( now with jimmy vaughn and others) played the bone solo...used to kill it
Wow. I forgot how powerful this rendition was......I remember listening to this album back in '76 or '77 in my high school years with my jazz and orchestra band buddies. I was a drummer back then and an accountant now lol but I still enjoy the music!
am i the only one to hear each of these musicians pouring their hearts out in this song? And they accompany maynard so beautifully. and also the way maynard sings on the trumpet. have to say. this rendition evoked so much emotion.
Randy Purcell played this song with our high school jazz band. I remember he had a great tone and he played a long solo with a lot of lip trills. Good to hear this one again.
