Thank you so much for posting this I didnt have this reack and Baker Street and GR were so great and Maynard can really cover this sooooo welll.... RIP to both of two of teh best muscisians ever to bless us w their skills
BTW, in case anyone reading my comment below was wondering... The reference to Art Bell is because Baker Street was one of the "bumper" songs used coming back from a commercial break on Art's old Coast-to-Coast AM radioshow, and now is used on his new satellite radio show "Dark Matter." ;-)
I've been looking for this version of Baker Street to pop up on YT for several years. Listening to Art Bell on Sirius XM reminded me that Maynard put his spin on what is one of my all time favorite songs. I had this album back in the early 80s and haven't heard this cover in over 30 years. Hearing this again after all these years almost bring me to tears. Sounds just like I remember-- beyond incredible!
The 1970's was my first time ever experiencing the sound of Maynard Ferguson. The first album I bought by him was Conquistador. Mainly bought it because it featured George Benson, Bob James, Gary King, Eric Gale, Steve Gadd and Ralph MacDonald. After that, I bought Primal Scream, Carnaval and New Vintage. His style always intrigued me, making me want more. This is song one of his finest efforts.
