it would be interesting to me to learn more about the relationship between Mingus and Doug Watkins, who plays bass on two of the tracks here. that Ming chose Watkins says a lot about the young bassist's promise. Ron Carter also thought a lot of Watkins. according to one of the Mingus biographies, Mingus had also had tutored Paul Chambers.
