Stand
In the end you’ll still be you
One that’s done all the things you set out to do Stand
There’s a cross for you to bear
Things to go through if you’re going anywhere
Stand
For the things you know are right
It s the truth that the truth makes them so uptight
Stand
All the things you want are real
You have you to complete and there is no deal
Stand, stand, stand
Stand, stand, stand
Stand
You’ve been sitting much too long
There’s a permanent crease in your right and wrong
Stand
There’s a midget standing tall
And the giant beside him about to fall
Stand
They will try to make you crawl
And they know what you’re saying makes sense and all
Stand
Don’t you know that you are free
Well at least in your mind if you want to be Everybody
Stand, stand, stand
Saw Sly and the Family perform at Hidden Valley Resort in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada back in 1969. I was only 14 years old and the tickets were $7.50. The words in "STAND" were beyond powerful to me then....and now. Although "Dance to the Music" was their "floor filler" BITD,.."STAND" to ME,..was one of their finest songs.
I’m 29 and I remember my mom would always play this song on the road trip to my summer camp when I was 11. And she would always turn up the radio at the last part.
branx101...you are dead on the money....I caught this groove as a young percussionist when the song was released and even now after almost 50 years, it is still one of the best jazz/rock combos ever!
