My funny Valentine
Sweet comic Valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you’re my fav’rite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
Don’t change a hair for me Not if you care for me Stay little Valentine
Stay!
Each day is valentine’s day
Is your figure less than Greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
Don’t change a hair for me Not if you care for me Stay little Valentine
Stay, oh stay!
Each day is valentine’s day
I feel like people who do this song today betray its beauty with over done vocals missing what I see as Chet Bakers biggest gift to the world complicated emotion with mostly simple playing and singing, instead of the other way around. But I'm no expert just a fan
People will still listen to Chet Baker 100 years from now because of the way he communicates human emotion. Even if you knew nothing about his story, or even little about music, if you have a heart he will reach out and touch it in his own quiet way. The world is full of louder singers, with their vocal tricks ready for some singing game show contest, but they can never melt you and make you cry like Chet Baker could. He is the very definition of sublime.

Somehow Chet Baker's version of this song reminds me of something Oscar Wilde said:
"We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
