Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing,
Praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the world.
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning,
God’s recreation of the new day.
Absolutely unbelievable. Neil Diamond's version is also fantastic, of course these two guys provided the soundtrack to my teenage years back in the '70s. It would be remiss for these two guys not to be friends. The trajectory of their respective careers has been rather similar. Both had their first hits in 1966, both are acoustic based singer-songwriters, both are spiritual men of god and both write songs with a personal slant. I hope someday they would sing together.
A lovely song, it is song that makes you feel good about being alive. The natural world is a beautiful and wonderful place. We must protect it. It I God's creation.
