I’ve spent a lifetime making up my mind to be More than the measure of what I thought others could see
Good luck and fast bucks are too far and too few between
For Cadillac buyers and old five and dimers like me She stood beside me letting me know she would be Something to lean on when everything ran out on me Fenced yards ain’t hole cards and like as not never will be Reason for rhymers and old five and dimers like me It’s taking me so long and now that I know I believe
All that I do or say is all I ever will be Too far and too high and too deep ain’t too much to be Too much ain’t enough for old five and dimers like me Yeah, an old five and dimer is all I really meant to be
He’s not wasted, he just needed hair oil and a few hours of sleep, but Waylon hated sleep, he simply wanted to stay awake, and never wanted to miss a thing.
His voice is simply incredible and so sincere. He really means it. He put heart and soul in all of his songs. He could cover a song and do it better than its original artist, he did “Delta Dawn” better than Tanya Tucker and never released it as a single, that’s the only reason she won an award for that song, (what a gentleman)☺️, the same goes for “Sweet Caroline”,his version is the best you’ll ever hear, better than Neil Diamond and anyone who’s ever attempted at singing it. And the guitar picking well we’ll not go there cause nothing compares.
Why do I never tire of this guy? Cause he's freak'n awesome! To hell with all the pasteurised Nashville crap of today. Gimmie those old Waylon & Willie tunes . Thanks for posting Jessi.
if i had a choice to listen to Elvis, or Waylon, or anyone else...... it would be Waylon hands down, for none can compare this man, in style in voice, mannerism , or heart....... for he touches my very soul...............
He could sing nursery rymes and give them weight. Simply a perfect combo of talent, (understatement!) , sincerity, material, and that "it" factor. New country has so many critics because it is simply too slick and artifical. Everyone is "trying" to be an outlaw. Waylon was called an outlaw by those seeing his actions ( doing it his way) not because he chose it as a genre. He always resented the outlaw thing and even said " people seem to forget I'm a musican " that's why he is so respected. He hated posers and the way country has gone he again would be "fightin the system". Every year after his passing his legend, impact, and legacy just continue to grow....I miss him!
