Please wait for me, for I shall return
My love for you, will forever burn
Though we must part, there’s no reason to cry
Just say so long, because lovers never say goodbye
I love you, my darling
More than life itself
I wouldn’t try to hurt you
For I’d only be hurting myself
Just kiss me dear, and hold me tight
For, you know, this is not our last night
Though we must part, there’s no reason to cry
Just say so long, because lovers never say goodbye
Never say goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
One of the greatest Doo Wop vocal groups of all times! Out of Chicago in the mid 50s and did so many memorable recordings they went into the Rock & Roll hall of fame in 2001. On the top of my list for the best "Belly Rubbin" Doo Wop dance music groups.
It's 3:30 am,I'm 73 years old,and I'm listening to these beautifull doo wop songs, and I actually haves tears in my eyes by the sheer power of this beautifull music and the talent required to create it.To have been a teenager during this era, slow dancing with some pretty young girl was truly magical. It makes me want to go wake up my loveyl wife of 52 years and start dancing.LOL.
I'm 20 yrs old and love this genre of music and Motown. I dislike the rap music and other music today. None of the songs today have true meaning or make sense. I'm glad my dad would play oldies in the den at our house, i fell in love with the music when I was only 4 yrs old and still am. I sing myself and love singing these types of songs, hope to bring it back.
I have many favorites, but there's something about this one that gets me every time. "Please wait for...me" The minute they sing "me" my knees go weak. The harmony and orchestration is absolutely beautiful!
This song brings me such remembrances from my teenage years. Used to hear it on the radio as it was played frequently. The radios usually played melodies on request by phone in those days. And this one was frequently requested. Fine song
The absolute best song from the Flamingos, my all-time favorite group. 1959 was the greatest year for wonderful, romantic songs and nobody did them like the Flamingos. I was fortunate to see them in person in 2007 in Toledo, Ohio, on my wife's birthday. Terry Johnson never sounded better!
My Steve & I once danced to this song and I knew every word. We loved it. But now, My Prince, Steve, departed for his Heaven Day. NOTHING truly makes me happy anymore. Even our sweet memories hurt me so much. It's so hard to be without him. And unlike others tell me to do, I am just not ready to go places without him. Never a fight or a bad word, not in 24 years. I guess our first marriages taught us well! The very last words he spoke were, "I love you, Kari. I love you so much." I said the same right back to him. Only 2 hours later and he was gone. It's already 4 months ago, but it feels like yesterday. I will never stop loving him, because "Lovers Never Say Goodbye." I will love you always, Your Kari + xox + (Karen Ingersoll-Burns...a.k.a., Kate Boerner on FB)......
I remember telling my girlfriend when she was moving with her mom and dad to Florida many years back to always listen to the words of this song. I never saw or heard from her again..............memories never die.
