I just found out Louis Johnson passed a few years ago. Major news outlets simply passed on the story. What disrespect for one of the greatest bass players ever!
RIP Thundering Thumbs!
The first time I heard this was on the playground at my school on May day and everybody was getting ready to rehearse the Maypole dance. I was in 6th grade, walking across the playground when one of the teachers put it on, the second I heard that synthesizer intro it was like a strong magnet. It was so different, loud, and funky. I was hooked and asked the teacher who it was. Right after school I asked my Dad to get it for me. He did. I still have that original album from Waxie Maxie record store.
OHMYDAMN!!! You have to listen close to Louis' licks!!! The man kicks ass on every note!!! What a virtuoso!!! Close your eyes when you listen to it, focus on the bass...you'll see what I mean!!!
Aw man,...I am crying right now. This is on the level of when Whitney Houston passed away. You can't help but bob your head to this groove....R.I.P to the baddest bass player on the planet....Gonna miss you Thunder Thumbs... This is the first song i learned to play on the flute.
