Of all the great music out there--recent or ancient, the Boswells are the only ones I can listen to repeatedly without the music getting old. I will "wear out" anybody else eventually and need to break away from it, at which point it's good to listen to again. What I'm trying to say is that if I were stranded on an island (with a good sound system) and had only one CD etc etc.

Interesting enough, all the many covers of this song by Ella to Bennett and Gaga, use the "doo waaah" and so far I haven't found a version that has the same scat that the Bozzies pull off here starting at 1:21/.

How great it would have been if the sisters had stayed together long enough to record with Django and Grappelli.

Why do I love the Boswell Sisters? I'm only 65. Too young to barely remember the Andrews Sisters. I guess great music will stand the test of time.

Thanks! It's hard to imagine that this recording is 80 years of age! Grtz, Aad

An optimal Boswell performance is a lunatic concoction with multiple key changes, 4 or 5 tempo shifts executed with precision, unexpected returns to the verse, choruses sung in what sounds like pig latin and blues refrains or complete reharmonization of the melody thrown in just because they felt like it and had the chops to pull it off." —Tom McDermott

Aad - is this a John R.T. Davies remaster? I am loving the fidelity!

I suspect it's Joe Venuti on violin, it usually is.  Thanks for the upload.

So much work and subtle detail went into this post. Wherever The Boswell Sisters are. I'm sure they are honored. This really is one great number.

The "Stolen Sweets" in Portland, Oregon, are based on the Boswell Sisters, and their music brought me to the Boswell sweeties......!
