What a hit! You know, dear professor, that I normally refrain from commenting on things beyond my competence, but this one brings back memories of seeing the ¨Last of the red-hot mamas¨ on television when I was. maybe 11 or 12. A real three-handkerchief song. Her Yiddish very understandable, btw, the sentiments: universal. Keep'em coming.
My mother was a Holocaust survivor and would sing this and similar songs after the fireworks in Brighton Beach. She took me every week and I was so young but I could feel their pain so deeply.
Playing this at Christmas as I do so remember my lovely late mother in law Polly Foley who adored Sophie Tucker and i think this is a super recording and I say that as a little shiksa!
Beautiful and powerful. I can't help but think of those young American men in WW2 whose last thoughts were of their mammas as they lay dying on the field of battle.
My mum was Catholic Same as I .But this songs speaks for all daughters who love there mum
I still cry.My aunt used to sing it so beautiful. Love it xxxxxxx
