I've always love this song, it's not well enough known. Thanks for posing it, Patrick Ranasinghe!
I saw on the online lyrics though (not here, on a lyrics site) that they wrote "Your pappy was a traitor"while it should be "Your pappy was a trader". Sorry to put it here, but I don't know where else to put it - I couldn't post my comment and correction on the lyrics site, but the mistake bothers me...
Great song from my childhood. Being part Indian, I always pictured how people who were half Indian & half White were treated back then. "Half breed" was a common derogatory name used to mean that mix, and like the song....people had to stand up against prejudice.
Poor Ricky....little did he know when he made this Rio Bravo movie in 1958, that he would only live to be 45 and then die in a horrible plane accident in 1985...Before the turn of the century, the four male stars of this movie were gone: John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky and Walter Brennan....only Angie Dickinson survived them. May they all rest in peace.
I was a "half-breed" Italian and English back when being "Italian" in my home town of Cortland NY was looked down upon. Singers like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra helped change attitudes. Eric Hilliard Nelson was a wonderful actor and singer with "movie star" good looks.
