WOW!!!!! I've only been aware of the versions by Al Wilson & Johnny Rivers, but this is the ONE! So glad I finally discovered this (as a result of a comment on the Rivers version). Wow.

Just wanna remind folks that the Liverpool Five version of this on You Tube is dope. Well worth checking out as others here have noted.

Just love this tune...Glad to finally hear the original...always liked the Liverpool Five version but not the commercial take by Johnny Rivers and Al Wilson.

I was pissed when I heard Trump mis-quote this song which Oscar wrote inspired by Aesop's fable of The Farmer and the Viper.  I'm sure Trump thought he was improving it

An artful warning to all the young ladies out there... Be careful who you bring home with you and take to your bosom. Some snakes walk on two legs

Just love this OB Jr.tune...thanx also to others here who turned me on to that L'pool Five version. Both recordings are so different but each is terrific.

Back in the late 80's....86-89...Oscar was the house musician at Marla Gibbs Supper Club near the 110 freeway. He was always a very cordial and warm fellow. For those who don't know of Marla Gibbs, she played the maid on the comedy show The Jeffersons.

The Liverpool Five were the first English rock group to recognize the genius of OBJnr. Their version on You Tube is well worth checking out.Lyrics are still so appropriate nowadays.

I saw him perform this in Greenwich Village in the 1960s, and it remains vivid in my memory,
