There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to save a sin-sick soul
If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot pray like Paul
You can tell the love of Jesus; you can say, «He died for us all.»
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to save a sin-sick soul
Sometimes I feel discouraged, you know and I feel like I can’t go on Oh, but then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again
Revives my soul, my soul again
My Mom was a student at the Eastman School of Music in 1960, and she said she heard Mahalia warming up in the hall, and her voice was unbelievable. No microphone, no nothing...just a massive, beautiful instrument.
Hear that blue note turn at 2:18? Ms. Jackson is bringing her ministry to an "invisible" community of sufferers not present in any traditional faith community or concert venue. Seen?
Jeremiah 8 was what brought me here. I heard The cry of the father to heal his daughters. He has provided the remedy but so called preacher's are all about money and preaching that gain=godliness making everyone covet things in this life. Gaining more things will not heal the sin-sick. Only WAY is through Christ Love. Picking up our cross denying self and following Him!! He sent His word and it heals us. !! God bless you for reading this
Love this song. From Mahalia's concert on Easter Sunday, 1967, in Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. My favorite album of all time. Thank you for posting this.
Mahalia was a trail blazer who stood her ground: from npr music: "Her voice became the soundtrack of the civil rights movement. Jesse Jackson says that, when a young Martin Luther King Jr. called on her, she never refused, traveling with him to the deepest parts of the segregated south. Mahalia Jackson sang at Selma, the March on Washington and King's funeral."
Sometimes I feel discouraged and think my work’s in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul.
If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot pray like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus and say, "He died for all."
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul.
Don’t ever feel discouraged, for Jesus is your friend;
And if you lack for knowledge, He’ll never refuse to lend.
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul.
Jeremiah 8:22Tree of Life Version (TLV)22 Is there no balm in Gilead?
Is there no physician there?
Then why has no healing gone up
for the daughter of my people?
