I don't know if the lyrics match the full orchestra, and I think. Lena sounds stilted too. It's like whitwashed, but I guess a good beginner's version if you wanted to learn the basics of singing the song.
My girlfriend never knew her mother, her parents were separated, I know it shouldn't effect someone so much but it really does impact someones life. But she can always have my mom, her mom is just shitty and doesn't take the time to say I love you or anything like that. Just a bad loser mom.
Too short but thank you jazzysclassicjazz for posting it. It's a lovely old song reminiscent of the anguish of a girl separated from her mother during the slave era when children were sometimes taken from their parents and sold. This is the Black legacy. They turned the hatred of slavery into a reason to worship God. The inimitable Lena Horne.
Lena Horne shows that one can sing about life being a train wreck without BEING
a train wreck or sounding like one. Oddly, those lists or compilations of great singers have Billie Holiday on top, and overlook Horne completely. I think the logic is that since she's candy to both the eye and ear, she's more form than content, but I disagree completely.
