I couldn’t sleep last night
I was sittin' by my telephone
All the time wastin'
All the love you’ve never shown
But someday, someday darlin'
You will realise I’m alone
The last time I saw you
You promised me you’d come call
But time is runnin' out babe
You never call at all
But life’s so long babe lonely
Sittin' by my telephone
But someday, someday darlin'
You will realise I’m alone
Hey, this was my favourite track as a kid, I bought the single with "I am your witch-doctor" on the A side and this "Telephone Blues" was the B side.. I mean with this as a B side heck just proves the class of the day! I played this track till the grooves were worn out and the neighbours were banging on the walls! Didn't know Page produced it though.. Brilliant band, John Mayall was the greatest.. always had such good side-men, the best guitarists.. Great to hear this again,Many thanks! Px
I've never heard this track before. I bought Beano as a kid and later an anthology of British blues but a lot of early Clapton didn't get a lot of distribution in the US. E.g. I can't remember seeing Sonny Boy Williamson with The Yardbirds in a store, though I saw a brief review of it in a magazine.
Eric Clapton never sounded better than on this fantastic record. Yes, the 'Beano' album is a milestone, but this has something which is difficult to describe in words.
