John Evan's piano (at times tasty, at times thundering) just adds something on this song and album that I can"t quite put my finger on--immediacy, maturity, sophistication, authenticity...??
Oh, Father high in heaven
Smile down upon your son, hey, hey
Who's busy with his money games, oh
His women and his gun
Lord Jesus save me
And the unsung western hero
He killed an Indian or three, ey hey
And then he made his name in Hollywood, oh
To set the white man free
Lord Jesus save me
If Jesus saves
Well, He'd better save Himself
From the gory glory seekers
Who use His name in death
Woh, Jesus hear me
If Jesus saves
Well, He'd better save Himself
From the gory glory seekers
Who use His name in death, baby
Woh, Jesus save me, hey
Well, I saw him in the city
And on the mountains of the moon, hey, hey
His cross was rather bloody, oh
He could hardly roll His stone
And Jesus save me, hey
God, I love it! The entire Aqualung album is wonderful and brilliant and altogether great fun. Such a talented bunch. Love Martin Barre's solos and epic riffs.
I saw them in 1972. Ian Anderson was mesmerizing- they pointed a spotlight at his flute, which he would spin like a baton so the light would flash! Wow! Also it’s the only rock concert I ever went to that ended with a band having a pie fight on stage! Great concert! Rock on!!!!
