Jan and Dean were a very underrated surfing song duo. They were around before The beach Boys appearing on "American Bandstand" in 1959 singing "Baby Talk". They made several smash hits between 1963 and 1967.
Ah, the memories! I was a junior in high school when this first aired (Side B of Deadman's Curve) and remember cruising in my old beater car with my buddies. Miss those days and the "surf sound" in music!
Jan and Dean were always my favorite singing group growing up. I liked others but they were my favorite. The Beach
Boys came in a very close 2nd place.
I saw Dean with the Surf City All Stars here in Florida last month - absolutely fantastic! I got to meet Dean - he is still the coolest ever! If he comes to your area, go see him.
There was a movie a while back about Jan & Dean’s singing career. Believe Jan got in a car accident. Took awhile but they came back to sing together. Always one of my favorite groups.
One of the finest surf style songs ever written! Such happy memories of the first time I heard this back in the late 1970's on London's Capitol Radio and chosen by DJ Graeme Dene!
I love Jan and Dean, and their fun tunes, they were willing to entertain with novelty stuff and not just surfing and car tunes tunes. they were all about fun. Some of their songs were sung somewhat flat...this one was more in tune and it shows their greatness here. Besides, who doesn't wan to sing he hook with them? "papa do ron de ron" lol.
