In commemoration of the 135th anniversary of the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, what better way than to have Sinatra’s immortal 1947 hit posted here? One of Old Blue Eyes’ shimmering Columbia recordings, the number was produced by the great Alex Stordahl and featured a young Nelson Riddle on trombone and Fletcher Henderson on the keyboards. Like all of Sinatra’s 1940’s recordings, the ballad was recorded at “The Church,” CBS’s legendary 207 East 30th Street studio, situated between Second and Third Avenues in Manhattan, just six miles from the Brooklyn Bridge itself. The song reeks of post-war America when blue skies seemed to dot our daily existence almost like the air we breathed. We were on top of the world – and we damn well knew it, most especially The Voice.
