After listening to Dionne Warwick songs all night (it's nearly 5 a.m.), what is striking is that the songs were crafted so that, where the lyrics and melody should be mournful they are, and where they should have punctuated flourishes, Ms. Warwick sings them as such. This is a sad song, and it sounds sad. There is no guessing what emotion is prevalent in any of her songs. How many contemporary pop songs actually SOUND sad when they are? They sound loud and clingy. Acoustic instruments are so much more capable of that feeling than what is used in most songs today. Bravo, Ms. Warwick. Back then you were just fantastic, but now, I realize, as Joni Mitchell wrote in Big Yellow Taxi, "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone." I'm glad to be old (60+): Ms. Warwick's music was fresh and beautiful - and , as a critic wrote, "You can understand 9 out of every 10 words she sings."
Amen.
Her singing style was so clean. By that i mean she did no excessive runs, riffs. today's aingers do it so much you can hardly make out waht they are saying. When it is clear like this...there is no confusion. Singers of today need to get back to basics.
Dionne Warwick will ALWAYS REIGN as the NUMBER ONE QUEEN of ROMANTIC SONGS....in the USA...She was America's answer to the French Dalida.....A Queen will always be a queen and no one today can hold a candle to this heavenly golden voiced Queen of Song! VIVA DIONNE!!!!
