Now she’s leaving
Congregation
Left the abbeys
Suffocation
She’s been dreaming
Relocation
From monastic
Regulations
Now she’s working
At the station
As a VJ
On rotation
In the uptown
In the uptown
In the uptown
In the uptown…
I JUST saw Harcore Henry on showtime like an hour ago!! I was smoking a blunt too when this song came on. Now it's downloaded to my phone and play this endlessly. NOTE: GOOD FOR SEX AND WEED SESSIONS.
Now she's leaving congregation,
left the abyss, suffocation,
She's been dreaming relocation,
From the mystic regulations
Now she's working at the station
as a vee-jay on location
This song is about the female mystic, Hildegard of Bingen! She was an abbess and wanted to have permission to start her own convent (she was later granted). She had visions from God--which Banhart refers to as "dreams."
Now she's leaving
Congregation
Left the abbeys
Régulation
She's been dreaming
Relocation
From monastic
Regulations
Now she's working
At the station
As a VJ
On rotation
In the uptown
In the uptown
In the uptown
In the uptown
In a press release, Banhart says of the song, "In my head there was this little movie, an alternative universe, I guess-- Hildegard is sequestered in her cloister, and one day she gets a VHS cassette and it's the prime era of the MTV VJ, and she just goes wild. 'That’s it for me,' she says. 'That's how I'm going to get my message across.' So she escapes the cloister…and becomes a VJ."
So? In strange sense it's tying the far past with the futuristic present in a vision of one thing.
Devendra did it again. I love how this song doesn't try too hard. Just kind of lingers there and then goes. It's like a really stylish person standing quietly in the corner and then leaving. OMG i love this.
