Just finished Season 6 of Bosch and I am celebrating another FANTASTIC Season with some Art Pepper in a song he wrote as an apology to his daughter....Here's to Michael Connelly and Titus Welliver, two fantastic artist who made our lives just a little bit more bearable during a very rough time in 2020. Cheers.
Just another reader if The Black Box brought here to listen. Have heard of Art Pepper but it does not appear that he gets much air play on the jazz stations. loving this
Another Harry Bosch / Michael Connelly fan here.I am about half way through the "Black Box". He talked about his daughter getting him the Art Pepper collection for his birthday and I have never heard of Art Pepper and didn't know if he was even real. So I had to check it out and am glad I did. If we only had more people in the world like Harry Bosch.......and Michael Connlley.... and Art Pepper,,,,,,
I worked with Chet Baker for many years, and I remember being with Chet on the grass above Santa Monica Beach, and we were talking about different musicians that we liked. I mentioned how much I liked Art Pepper, and Chet looked at me with a smile on his face and said that 'Art Pepper was the most lyrically swinging Alto player ever'!!- And I completely agree. I've always loved Art's tone & phrasing. Man, Art can make me cry & conversely, lift my spirit to the heaven. Artt Frank long time drummer with Chet Baker.
Probably Connelly's success as a writer of depth and great observation is in part due to his love of good jazz. Anyone who appreciates the gifted Art Pepper must be emotionally developed.
The most beautiful ballad I've ever heard in jazz, full of emotion, impatience, love ... I read or heard that he had written it for his daughter (?), which moves me even more
I saw Art on stage in 1981 in Vienne (France). He finished the show with Ophelia. It was magic. It made me in love with jazz!
