Goodnight Maestro....many thanks to Mr.Docherty my English teacher 47 years ago for playing 'Suzanne' in a poetry lesson for our class when I was 13. I've been a 'Beautiful Loser' ever since that day....thank you Mr.Cohen and Mr.Docherty...

You may have left the table, Cohen... But not before playing one mighty hell of a hand.

His singing is so emotionally gripping. I love the way he adds those little 'no, no' to the lyrics.

That entire album is totally haunting and heartbreaking... We can hear the last steps of an old man, considering the wounds and the ephemeral joys of his past. After a long journey into the darkness, penetrated by some lightning, Leonard Cohen is now ready to "leave the table" and to close the book of his life for good : he did what he had to do. Thank you so much, dear Leonard, for all the beauty and the emotions that you gave to your listeners during all these years. It is priceless.

I'm leaving the table I'm out of the game I don't know the people In your picture frame If I ever loved you or no, no It's a crying shame if I ever loved you If I knew your name You don't need a lawyer I'm not making a claim You don't need to surrender I'm not taking aim I don't need a lover, no, no The wretched beast is tame I don't need a lover So blow out the flame There's nobody missing There is no reward Little by little We're cutting the cord We're spending the treasure, oh, no, no That love cannot afford I know you can feel it The sweetness restored I don't need a reason For what I became I've got these excuses They're tired and lame I don't need a pardon, no, no, no, no, no There's no one left to blame I'm leaving the table I'm out of the game I'm leaving the table I'm out of the game

Bob Dylan doesn't normally do accolades.....Here's what he said: 'When people talk about Leonard, they fail to mention his melodies, which to me, along with his lyrics, are his greatest genius,' Dylan said. 'Even the counterpoint lines—they give a celestial character and melodic lift to every one of his songs. 'As far as I know, no one else comes close to this in modern music. His gift or genius is in his connection to the music of the spheres.'

This song in a kind of goodbye, a kind of acceptance of a fulfilled life. One of the great poets has gone and today I feel deeply affected.
