I could be WRONG, but im CONVINCED DB THE DON (DONALD BYRD) WAS HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY THE TEACHINGS & SAYINGS OF THE HONOURABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMAD BASED ON THE TITLE OF THE SONGS OF THIS ALBUM SUCH AS 'ELIJAH', 'BLACK DISCIPLE', 'DESIGN A NATION', 'CHANT' ETC...
I recently sampled the intro of this track for a Hip Hop beat on my channel. Pitched it up, chopped it and added loads of other elements. I know not every Donald Byrd fan will be a fan of Hip Hop or sampling, and I'll wholeheartedly admit my version can never touch the original. But with that being said, I think I flipped the sample decent and tried to create something fresh with it :)
So if anybody wants to check it out it can be heard in the video on my channel titled
"J.Dilla x Q-Tip Type Beat | 'Ride Or Die' | (Prod. by Kaizer)"
Donald Byrd's musical legacy lives on, just reinterpretated through the younger generations I guess. But show it some love if you want :P
