Pyramid with 1000 steps
Bricks of obsidian glimmering
Carved with ruins
Occult fire burning within
Lens of quartz reflect the night sky
1000 Anchorites in their solitude
Witness new constellations coalesce
Owls perched upon columns of dark energy
The smoke of our offerings draws the night spirits
The moon leads celestial legions
To cast the stars from their ancient thrones
Astral blood pours forth
From their grievous wounds
I don't really believe so. They seemed like they might've even wanted to stop doing metal altogether. Aaron stated: "It's the end of Wolves in the Throne Room as we've done it for the past 8 years, and it's the beginning of a whole new era". They cited touring as taking away too much from their farm and nature lifestyle. My guess is that they'll do something like Ambient.
PS , this is all just my guess of course. They may still do metal in the future.
I agree with you, though I wouldn't expect their new work to sound like their old work- they've spoken about making changes to the music direction in order to avoid stagnation.
At 6:12 Nathan Weaver can be heard reaching new levels...his voice at that moment sounds at once terrified and anguished. Also in the seconds before it, he channels very raw emotion with his vocals. It all evokes really powerful feelings deep within me. I feel so grateful for Wolves in the Throne Room and the consciousness-expanding properties of this music they create
