Allan Holdsworth... a guitar sound and solo for the ages...whew. Out of my favorite fusion electric guitar players, namely him, John McLaughlin and Bill Connors, he had the best sound. ...and could run a fret board like no one else!
Truly a Great guitarist
This album changed my guitar playing forever. Amazing, incomprehensible at the time. This was the only track that, "Soft Edges", the fusion band I was in at the time attempted. We did a pretty good job! :-)
I saw The New Tony Williams Lifetime at My Father's Place in '76, but Allan Holdsworth wasn't on guitar. They did play all the tunes from Believe It, and some from Million Dollar Legs. My favorite Tony Williams performance is on Miles Davis's Four & More.
R.I.P. Tony Williams.
Alan holdsworths playing on this album is amazing. And of course Tonys... Alan Pasqua was good, however has developed over the years... Alan was already fully formed ... brilliant
For me Tony William's Lifetime was Holdsworth's intro into the greater music world. It seems Alan loved Tony and always kept him in high regard. I love the nods that Alan has always given Tony within his own music. Tunnels on Holdsworth's Atavachron album features Tony. It's an amazing tune featuring two amazing musicians.
when i was a young player, everyone said that i sounded like Tony Williams so i purchased a Stanley Clarke album and thought to myself, this guy cant play and i cried, I then decided to see him live and thats when i got it. i was hooked forever and only wished i was that good. I owe a great debt to his genius as it inspired me to be a better player and to keep practicing.
