If you want a truly odd curio, this song was covered by Vince Edwards, a.k.a Dr. Ben Casey from the TV show.

Groucho Marx once referred to this piece as "the most god-awful music I ever heard".

I remember hearing this in The Big Store ever since I first watched it near the end of 2008.

I'm afraid I must agree with Groucho on this one.

I know I am in the minority but I have liked this piece ever since I first saw "The Big Store" when I was a kid maybe 55 years ago. I know, I know, it's corny and syrupy but the lyrics hearken back to a time when people really did believe in the "melting pot", and I have always found the tune catchy too.

This really is not much of a song....totally a mess. It's just all over the place and not very tuneful. Hollywood kept trying to make these pseudo Rhapsody in Blue numbers without the talent of Gershwin. This can be seen most notably in Cagney's City for Conquest with that composition that was a song of the teaming tenements and also god-awful music.
