This song made number 1 for one week in January 1957. The more popular version by Guy Mitchell made the top spot for 10 weeks around the same period. Personally I preferred Tommy Steele's recording.

First pop song for me too.  It was the first record that me and my mum bought.   As a 78rpm record on a wind-up gramophone.  I don't think the Dansette had been invented yet!   It was an amazing sound at the time and something very different than we were used to. It must have been one of the first British rock & roll songs.

So many wonderful memories of this era, I was 14 years old and this lead to the swinging 60's, The Beatles, Searchers, what a fantastic era to be a teenager in, wonderful times.
