The fact that this wasn't a massive hit is a testimony to the greatness of the music of 1965, a year of many GREAT hits representative of many different genres of music. So many great songs from 1965 should have (but didn't) crack the top ten. 10/2019
The Chiffons had several good hits. This was one of them. Reminds of taking care of my neighbors' goldfish while they were on vacation. I accidently flushed them down the toilet.
This is not their best song but it IS an incredible song. Long title, ghostly vocals layered over the lead and an intense performance. Drums upfront. This grabbed my ear the same way the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" did. The instrumental break followed by the wailing trombones is fantastic. The 60's -- music was challenging. Even the top 40 was a roller coast ride. It will never happen again.
I LOVE THIS SONG! This is the most mysterious and beautiful thing the Chiffons ever did; it's quite a change from their usual sound. There's something genuinely ghostly about it.
I remember buying this at Zayre in Miami when it first came out. It was the only record by the Chiffons I ever bought, and I don't know why it didn't become a MASSIVE hit! It's so different! Go figure!
