I could have loved you, girl, like a planet I could have chained your heart to a star But it really doesn't matter at all No it really doesn't matter at all Life's a gas I could have built a house on the ocean I could have placed our love in the sky But it really doesn't matter at all No it really doesn't matter at all Life's a gas I could have turned you into a priestess I could have burned your fate in the sand But it really doesn't matter at all No it really doesn't matter at all Life's a gas But it really doesn't matter at all No it really doesn't matter at all Life's a gas I hope it's going to last But it really doesn't matter at all No it really doesn't matter at all Life's a gas

I just read the comments and nobody had much to say about how great this song and t rex in general is, so I thought I'd join in.

As for the message: this is proly the most mature 'moving-on' song out there. He's at peace. As for the musicianship: idiosyncrasies of his guitar playing are irreplicable. One of a kind.

Perfect in 1971 and in 2020.

Love this song! And who else thinks that Marc was an underrated guitarist, never really getting the credit he deserved? I'm just re-listening to Electric Warrior and The Slider and man he could play. Thank you Marc for giving so much joy to your fans over the years.

He was a great musician and poet of the music world. This song and Cosmic Dancer are among my favorites of his, and both elude to his death. From Cosmic Dancer  "I danced myself out of the womb, Is it strange to dance so soon,I danced myself into the tomb..." Yeah, I wish it would have lasted for him and the world.

I've still got all those early T Rex singles with that great Fly logo. I've always thought this was one of Marcs best songs.
