I am black and was raised on 50s, 60s 70s Pop, Rock, Soul and Country. I.was not a Sturgill fan until Netflix, so I was unaware of all the Nashville drama and angst over his 'style' and 'category'. My opinion, his 'category' is: GREAT MUSIC and SONGWRITING. PERIOD. I hope that helps. P.S., It somehow darkly reassuring that the country media scene is just as F*cked UP as pop rock soul and hip hop are. Corporate friggin America. gotta love it. (not really)
This album is a little bit like crack, I was hesitant to try it but after listening to it on repeat for the last day nothing else is really doing it for me
Some of the most original stuff, Ive ever heard. Sturgills known for his traditional country stuff, but man, this is some kinda spaced out natural fit for him. Bad assery.....
