This cover of Gypsies gave me an appreciation for the song that the original never did. Probably says something about my inability to recognize a well written song because of my disinterest in Cher when it was released. Another song that gave me an enhanced appreciation was Freedy Johnston's cover of Witchita Lineman several years back.
Very interesting cover. Hats off to the Scud boys for putting a completely different spin on the classic original. It's pointless comparing it to Chers version, this evokes an entirely different set of emotions and a completely different listening experience. As, in my opinion, a good well executed cover should do:)
guys and girls, don't compare it to cher. Cher owns the song, obviously, this is just a different take, appreciate it for what it is - a darker, moodier version. They would not have copied it had they not had an apreciation for the original themselves.
