I remember this song !! I was 17 or 18 yrs old when I first heard it, 1977 or 78. I was in The Army, stationed in West Germany. 8th Infantry Division, Bravo batry, 2nd Bn, 81st F.A, Straussburg kaserne, Idar Oberstien, West Germany. Ah, the memories
Probably one of the world's most underrated musicians......RL was a true genius and will always be a part of my musical life........amazing album.......made 1978 a great year for me!
My pops played drums for Ronnie Laws, I spent alot of time in the studio in Hollywood with these dudes as a child, That studio is now the Hollywood Guitar Center, but back then, War, Santana, Earth, Wind and Fire , were regulars there. Ronnie, Bobby Lyles, Donnie Beck, Steven Gutierrez, those dudes are awesome musicians. Those days shaped my musical taste buds for the rest of my life..no doubt!
This song evokes one of my most special memories. In 1980 when I was 19, I visited Haiti. There was this awesome New York-style jazz station in Port-Au-Prince that used to play this song all the time. I recall looking at the most spectacular sunset of my life while hearing this song, as the Sun went down over the bay, turning the puffball clouds a brilliant shade of orange. Fantastic song for a fantastic memory.
Weird...Dreamed I was visiting the White House and this song was playing in the background (from 1:30 onward). President Obama is even cooler than I first thought if he's actually chillin' to Ronnie Laws...
