For men the sea have drowned, slanting turning round
Weather storms another way, women weeping holding hands
women stand around
Shadows falling at the harbour, the oilskins flapping
eyes half closed against the spray
Women drawn in fear, winds were moving fast
Women drawn in fear, women stand around Renaissance, shadows falling at the harbour
Women stand around, hulls were creaking crashing sails At, thunder roaring at the harbour
women stand around
The tides were turning to the storm, slanting turning round
Of those they still have left, hulls were creaking crashing sails, women waiting at the harbour
cracked upon the boats
Weather storms another way, winds that wouldn t wait
waiting for the tide
Shadows falling at the harbour, for men the sea have drowned At, torn from life
Shadows falling at the harbour, for men the sea had found The, fishermen were laying nets
Rains were slating down, ghostly echoes at the harbour
Huddle up to wait the time, eyes half closed against the spray
fishermen were laying nets
men with little hope
and tears they cannot hide
women waiting at the harbour
women waiting at the harbour
Eyes half closed against the spray, weather storms another day Harbour, weather storms another day
Fishermen were laying nets, and torn from safety
Out at daybreak to the sun, people gathered at the harbour Harbour, women waiting at the harbour
This voice must be what an angel sounds like in heaven. "Love" is not even beginning to describe what I feel, when I listen to this woman singing, especially in this song. Annie is an angel on earth! Her singing is so beautiful, that it makes me cry (nothing else gets me in touch with my feelings lately).
Im very appreciative Mago Merlino included the Debussy "Engulfed Cathedral" piano intro. Ive always considered it essential to At The Harbour, and it was left off the CD.
So much music was produced in the 60-90's the task of picking out the best for its time period, Renaissance is without a doubt the pinnacle for its time for many years into other styles.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but where is the creativity and talent like this today? I listen to a lot of different music, but no voice has ever touched me like Annie's!!!!!
I discovered and fell in love with Debussy because of this song. "La Cathédrale Engloutie" still brings me to tears every time. Then comes Annie's perfect, heavenly voice, with that extra-charming accent to boot. A sad song which, however, always lifts my spirits out of its sheer beauty. Thank you, Annie, for bringing so many sublime moments to my life!
I appreciated this as a teenager, and then I joined the US Navy, and sailed all over the world for 4 years. I've appreciated it since, and now, today, at the age of 59, it brings tears to my eyes. Annie Haslam and Renaissance were the best, and they still are the best. It's been a lifelong appreciation of them, for me, and that's from an old sailor who's known them all his adult life. They matter.
