There’s a sheet upon the sky
Kinda mixes my soul
Upon the king’s highway
I didn’t know where to go If you’re ever feeling rushed
Spare a thought for us You can be king for a day
And still have nothing to say
Under a white sky
White sky
White sky
White sky, coming down on me Was there something in the road
Try’n loosen my load
When i came to watch the sky
Came to face a crossroads
Coming down on me Coming down on me Coming down on me Coming down on me Coming down on me Coming down on me Coming down on me
(Coming down on me)
Coming down on me Under a white sky
(Coming down on me)
White sky
(Coming down on me)
White sky
(Coming down on me)
White sky, coming down on me
Some of the comments on here are ridiculous. Should Weller just have stayed in The Jam and just kept on rolling out the greatest hits in big arena's?
Music should be about pushing the boundaries and at the end of the day, whether you like his new stuff or not at least he is not taking the piss out of his fan base by rolling out hits from the past.
Weller is probably not going to win any new fans with his current music but I am pleased with the stuff he has been doing since 2008, considering the previous ten years he was just coasting along making uninspiring albums, except for the occasional decent single.
If The Jam or Style Council were still going now it would be anachronistic and Weller would be pilloried for it and rightly so.
Even if some of Weller's new music is inconsistent at least he still cares about what he does and is putting out music that is challenging himself and his audience, rather than doing something as uninspiring as reforming like The Stone Roses and myriads of other has beens for example, who are quite happy to roll out the old hits and charge their fans a fortune to stand in a muddy field to hear them doing badly what they used to be good at.
As I've said many times before: The worst thing about Paul Weller is his fans. Darlings, If you honestly Weller should pack it in, why not free yourselves from perpetual misery and disappointment and get yourselves off over to a couple of those From The Jam gigs and allow the rest of us to get on with it?
Seriously, people hate this? I'm either reading that or it's people needing to grow to like it. This song kicked my arse in the first ten seconds! Repeat button broken.
PW is a true artist. And true artists move forward and sideways, but always moving, trying different styles and following inspirations. One may not like all the results, but I applaud the fact that he will not stagnate or pander to the masses. I know a lot of people would love for him to just play Jam or Style Council stuff forever. But I enjoy following him on his journey. Had Picasso done the same style over and over we would not have had the diverse group of art that he produced, and that would be a shame and boring. I like some Weller songs better than others, I like this one a lot. Keep on with the experiments and new horizons Paul. His backlog has so many hits and classics that it buys him the benefit of doubt from me forever. Peace.
PW Can slam a whole lot of history into 15 seconds and make it sound as fresh and real as anyone who thinks they are so FN new and original but are truly just filled with ego and the emptiness that comes with it.
If you want the jam, listen to the jam. If you want the style council, listen to them. If you want wild wood, listen to it. PW has already made those tunes. Everybody moans about repeats. Do you want to watch last weeks match or next weeks? I love the repeats and I also love the way he keeps moving. As Ali said 'if you ae the same person at 50 as you were at 20, you've wasted 30 years of your life'. Love the music, love the video. In my world you can smoke and play whatever sounds you like. In the other one you can watch x-factor and go to tribute band gigs.
I loved The Jam, but that was 30/40 years ago, to expect someone with Paul's talent to churn out the same stuff for all that time is disrespectful and stupid. Personally I love this if anyone doesn't, well you know where the off button is.
