Early R.E.M must be much more influenced by MOB than they've ever let on.

Heard this bar recently, and I had not heard it since the 90's. So hearing it was a mental time-warp. Amazing how a somewhat obscure, not often in rotation song can do that...

I saw MoB open for the Gang of Four back in 1980 at Irving Plaza. Thrilling performances by both bands.

Nirvana played this in a soundcheck and I always wondered why they'd play a Moby song. Now that I know it was actually M.O.B. it makes sense.

The song rings even more true today than it did back then.

Once I had my heroes Once I had my dreams But all of that is changed now They've turned things inside out The truth is not that comfortable, no And mother taught us patience The virtues of restraint And father taught us boundaries Beyond which we must go To find the secrets promised us, yeah That's when I reach for my revolver That's when it all gets blown away That's when I reach for my revolver The spirit fights to find its way A friend of mine once told me His one and only aim To build a giant castle And in it sign his name Cry and whispers sing in muted pain That's when I reach for my revolver That's when it all gets blown away That's when I reach for my revolver The spirit fights to find its way Tonight the sky is empty But that is nothing new Its dead eyes look upon us And they tell me we're nothing but slaves That's when I reach for my revolver That's when I reach for my revolver That's when I reach for my revolver That's when I reach for my revolver That's when I reach for my revolver That's when I reach for my revolver!

i was about 16 when i bought this album...from one of those weird and seedy alternative record stores...the kind that did so little business that they could only afford to rent a store in the "scary" section of the city...those stores are long gone...as are the feelings that came with such discoveries...ALL youth seems wasted in the eyes of an old man...nostalgia ultimately turns into a blend of youthful joy and regret...life is toxic, chug it!!

Man I can remember hearing this on the radio back in Boston on WBCN back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. Great song . Lead sing sound a little like Mick Jones from the Clash

Still so beautiful - the writing, the voice, the instrumentation never dated. Something about this very late 70s / very early 80s period when the fun of the Dolls and the Ramones morphed into the deadly serious intensity of M.O.B., Husker, and Wipers here and Joy Division and P.I.L. in UK..
