I've always read this was the inspiration for Dragnet. It is a few years before the radio show.

everybody's talking about Dragnet but I'm just sitting here thinking: Wasn't this from the original Donkey Kong?

Being no expert on this particular case, I do believe it´s the other way around. The Killers came in 1946 and Dragnet in 1951.

The greatest theme from Miklós Rózsa from the 1946 film “the Killers.” The Dragnet composer was at the Miklós Rózsa recording sessions and the Dragnet theme appears after. The lawsuit was made by the original film music publishers and there was a settlement in favor or both composers.

Nicholas Dodd (Conductor of films such as STARGATE, INDEPENDENCE DAY, CASINO ROYALE w/ David Arnold, composer) should re-do / record this theme.

You may be right. I read once that the theme used for both was written before the movie and before the 1949 radio show, but I do not remember exactly where. It was in a history of film music book, I think. Still, the dates you gave make it seem like my source was wrong. Thanks for the enlightenment!

Yes Sir Rozsa's Great score and what he does with horns and strings is on target On Double Indeminty , Rozsa was asked why his score was so nasty He replied" This film is about nasty people "!

No - the dragnet theme came first. Rosza unknowingly used it in this film which caused a lawsuit. Rosza never needed to steal ideas as he was a melodic genius, but simple themes often find their way into different pieces of music without being outright violations of copyright.

The Dragnet theme was derived from this - just listen to the first few notes

Regardless of whether Rosza wrote the theme first or not, he was an AMAZING film composer.
