I go back to Paris in January, the "City of Lights", to play my Blues.
Many black Americans moved there to experience what they could
not experience here: freedom.
From the great black American painter Henry Ossawa Tanner who
moved to Paris in 1891 and is buried there, to Josephine Baker and
many other great black artist, France was the place to be.
I recorded this song there and dedicate it to that special time.
This song brings back fond memories of Paris and the many wonderful experiences that I've enjoyed there. One of my special nights was spent at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Club where I caught the performance of Mighty Mo Rodgers and his band. It was a fantastic evening. I was so impressed that I invited them to play at my retirement party. We've maintained a wonderful friendship since that performance in Paris. Paris, by the way, is one of my favorite cities.
Yeah the same Didier that has not paid me one Euro for a great cd I did for his label "Black Paris Blues" some 6 years ago. My agreement/contract
was that I get paid after the record sold 6000 units. Funny how it always
hovers around 5,800 plus but never reaching 6000...so I never get paid.
Didier WAS my agent in Europe. He may have been a winner for "keeping the blues alive", but I don't think too many blues players would agree with this...I sure don't. Mighty Mo Rodgers
