What’s that lyin' on her pillow
Folded up so neat
What once was love is now a letter
Lying where she used to sleep
Oh, I thought love was something I could count on But it took her to show me that
Chorus:
Love lies-right to your face
Love lies-just when I had faith
It would let me down
I know that love lies-right to the end
Love lies-i know the word will never mean the same to me What’s this emptiness inside me Where her promise used to be She said she’d be here to guide me I guess now the joke’s on me Oh, I thought love was something like devotion
But it took her to show me that
Chorus:
Just when you think you know what love is about
Someone takes your place, and you find that

Just discovering this awesome tune after all these years. I've only ever heard the hit, I Keep Forgettin, from this album. I finally decided to look up some of the other tunes from it. Glad I did. Thanks for posting.
I soon as I bought this album this was the first track I fell in love with! Obviously already loved keep forgetting but also there was so many other tracks on this great album also not to mention another great track "no such luck". If someone said to me who would be in your top 5 artist's of all time and also top 5 voices, michael springs straight to mind without question!
Great song, great memories. I was 21 years old and getting married and my wife and I bought this album. It was one of our favorites as a married couple. I love his voice, so soulful.
Steve Gadd's drumming in this is absolutely fantastic and as always, Mike McDonald has one of the best voices ever and he accompanies it with very tasty keyboard work. This whole album is fantastic!
Steve Gadd absolutely KILLING it on this, following with Willie Weeks on bass. This is just too good! Michael McDonald on its primacy in your debut album, the best sounds of the early 80s "yacht" rock. A fine piece of art.
