Thank you very, very much for sharing. A truly emotional experience to see this film clip. I was fortunate to hear this great person in 1961 at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico! I might know just a little about how difficult and cruel it must have been for her in an all "white" career, as I experienced discrimination myself living in NY and being of mixed ethnic origin. Regardless, NY greatly influenced my musical life, in spite of the pain and loneliness. some of the great Black artists I heard; Leontyne Price in her met debut, James Earl Jones as Othello, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davies and more. Thanks again from Down Under.

At a family reunion I discovered this lady is my cousin, she has roots in the Bahamas. Then I understood why so many fam members sing opera in our Church Choirs . So beautifully .

Beside her magnific voice, I find the video of a great quality. Compared in time, it is even better than nowaday videos produced cheaply. How old is that video taken ?

She was talented and beautiful.  But even more importand she was determined to succeed.

What an amazing voice. Words can not describe how much of an amazing person she was.

Every time I hear her sing, and especially this song, it touches my heart. Respect for this lady who had a rough time getting chances to sing in public. Fortunately she was supported by many influential people such as Roosevelt so the "haters" couldn't just overlook her! She deserved every chance she got and she worked so very hard. respect

After listening to several "Ave Maria" by singers, both male and female, this one the Marian Anderson version is the best. Absolutely superlative.

This is the Marian Anderson voice in its absolute prime. It's so beautiful that it's almost painful. Her legato line is perfection and her tone is flawless. This is THE best version in existence by a female singer without question.
