Let s find a place they say, gaining weight and losing sleep
She packs her things and leaves, poppy and the family left the dirty streets
There but for the grace of god, she turns out to be a natural freak, there but for the grace of god
Now they gotta split cause the bronx ain t fit, for a kid to grow up in
Let s find a place they say, no jews and no gays
There but for the grace of god, oh go i could be me, there but for the grace of god
There but for the grace of god, there but for the grace of god
a lovely girl with a crooked smile
Let s find a place they say, and when she s sweet sixteen the, there but for the grace of god
Somewhere far away, and when she s sweet sixteen
there but for the grace of god
Carlos and carmen vidal just had a child, there but for the grace of god
There but for the grace of god, and year after year the kid has to hear
there but for the grace of god
carmen starts to bawl
Now they gotta split cause the bronx ain t fit, there but for the grace of god
bangs her head to the wall
There but for the grace of god, there but for the grace of god
And year after year the kid has to hear, there but for the grace of god, no jews and no gays
For a kid to grow up in, bangs her head to the wall, carmen starts to bawl
With no blacks, somewhere far away, there but for the grace of god
There but for the grace of god, for a kid to grow up in, with a man she met on the street
A lovely girl with a crooked smile, no jews and no gays the, now they gotta split cause the bronx ain t fit
Now they gotta split cause the bronx ain t fit, there but for the grace of god
A lovely girl with a crooked smile, there but for the grace of god
the do s and don ts and the dears
Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays
There but for the grace of God go I
Papi and the family left the dirty streets
To find a quiet place overseas
And year after year the kid has to hear
The do's, the dont's and the dids
And when she's ten years old she digs that Rock 'n' Roll
But Papi bans it from home
There but for the grace of God go I
Baby, she turns out to be a natural freak
Gaining weight and losing sleep
And when she's sweet sixteen, she packs her things and leaves
With a man she met on the street
Carmen starts to bawl, bangs her head to the wall
Too much love is worse than none at all
There but for the grace of God go I
My mother apparently used to go out partying to stuff like this throughout the late 70s-early 80s.
Really puts my current musical taste in perspective.
Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays....
Oh Honey, this was the shit back in the late 70's at the gay clubs and I would be at Odyssey and Circus Disco in Hollywood. And also with Fernando in El Paso, Texas at the Old Plantation disco. Fernando did a mean disco spin and dip, and had a perfect disco pompadour hair style!

To Black Man, Troy Torres and Dawn Connors - You have to really listen to the words. Initially, they are narrow-minded but then realize that no matter where you go, there is going to be good and bad, that "bad" does not fall into any "stereotype," and that no matter how you try to protect your kids, you can't say that this group or that group is bad. Opens minds to no stereotyping, not to mention a killer disco beat! :) Peace out and disco rules!!
