I don’t often comment on anything on the internet (feels a bit too much like trying to shout and be heard in a hurricane), but this song... this song. I read somewhere that Lisa Gerrard doesn’t always sing in an existing language; sometimes she invents words all of her own, that exist only in her songs. The beauty of her music, personified in this song, is that it speaks to us in a universal tongue that you don’t need to understand to be moved by it, to be changed. A song like this reminds me how we are all simultaneously insignificant in the grand scheme, just as we are each of us inherently precious. “Valley of the Moon” makes me cry every time, same as it always gives me hope in some goodness in the world that I have no words for, but that feels just that bit closer when I listen to her sing.
