This completely reminds me of my dad, I grew up with him playing this song (amongst other Spanish oldies) and I hated it. But as I got older I grew an appreciation for it and brings back great childhood memories of my dad and family. :)

So I am the old guy (now 60). I used to live in a little Mexican town (General Bravo) that had a movie theater called "cine TROPICAL" with no roof; (just feel the cool breeze at night while you watch a movie like CAPULINA or Clavillaso). The movies started at 7pm on a sunday night. It cost 3 pesos to go in (when it was 12.50 pesos for a US dollar). "Como te extrano" was the song played at 6:55 pm , just before the movie started (every sunday). Since the theater had no roof, you could hear this song play in the whole town, and you had to hurry to make the movie. That was the time when you saw a Black and White movie like "LATIGO NEGRO" , and then a color movie with CANTINFLAS.
