Apparently Chris Blackwell was on his way to Bob Marley's house at 56 Hope Road the night of the attempted assassination. He called in at Lee Perry's Black Ark studio, Scratch played him this tune, Dreadlocks in Moonlight, saying he wanted Marley to voice it.
Blackwell said, no, it's perfect as it is with you singing, and asked if he could take the tape away.
Scratch, ever the perfectionist, said he would need to mix it, but that would take just a half hour or so. A half hour turned into two hours, a lucky chance, because as a result, Blackwell missed being present at Hope Road when the shooting took place.
