To add a little more intrigue to the "Klaatu is the Beatles" rumor...I was late teens early 20's in this time period. Went to all the concerts of pretty much all the rock-n-roll bands of the era (the best era ever!)....Anyway, around 1970 or 71 maybe, before I ever heard of a band called "Klaatu" a good friend that followed the Beatles religiously told me one day that Paul had uttered the words "Remember Klaatu" ... that was it, just "Remember Klaatu"...don't remember where he said Paul said that...a concert maybe? Anyway, a year or so later we heard of a new band called Klaatu. I remember that conversation with my friend vividly and always wondered what it meant.  A few more things....Klaatu's first album listed no band members nor production co on the jacket, nor any pictures of any of the band members....Ringo once had a picture of himself with the robot from the space movie Klaatu...The Beatles song "Here comes the sun" (Klaatu album cover)...a rumor of one Klaatu song that you could play backwards and get a different song, ala the Beatles...and many more things I've forgotten... I'm sure it is all bogus but there were many reasons everyone thought this was the Beatles way back then.

People think it's the Beatles because of the timing signatures and string arrangements and also the drums sound like Ringo.

Klaatu was a Canadian progressive rock group formed in 1973 by the duo of John Woloschuk and Dee Long. They named themselves after the extraterrestrial character Klaatu in the film The Day the Earth Stood Still.[1] After recording two non-charting singles, drummer Terry Draper was added to the line-up; this trio would comprise Klaatu throughout the rest of the band's recording career. In Canada, the band is remembered for several hits, including "California Jam" (1974), "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" (1977) and "Knee Deep In Love" (1980). In the U.S. "Calling Occupants" b/w "Sub-Rosa Subway" was a minor double-sided hit and their only chart entry, peaking at No. 62 in 1977. The band is also remembered internationally for rumors that they were the Beatles recording under a pseudonym. Klaatu themselves did not start these rumors and always flatly denied them, and indeed no Beatle was ever involved in the writing, recording or production of any Klaatu material. Contents

I just wish that Paul McCartney would do a cover of this song.Either on an album or just live in one of his concerts.

This sounds lifted straight from an early Wings album. I don't know, maybe Band on the Runish? It's so weird. Great track though.

They do sound like the Beatles... And I wasn't born yet during this time, but I know how bad people wanted The Beatles to come back, so the fact that they thought that this was a secret Beatles Project is completely understandable

I found a copy of this record at goodwill, I had no knowledge of the band but I thought it looked interesting... Good purchase, great music.

As Beatles as it gets without actually being The Beatles.

More Jeff Lynne ELO "Wall of Sound" than any Beatles selection.

I still have this original Klaatu album in vinyl. It was one of the best to come out in 1976. We all heard about the Beatles rumor and it was hard to tell who was behind Klaatu, but cool music is good no matter who composes it. I think Klaatu's big problem was when it was 100 percent confirmed that the Beatles were not involved, it let a lot of people's hopes for a Beatles reunion down. EVERYBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY back then wanted to see the Beatles together again. Like a lot of musicians, Dee Long says the Beatles were a big influence, which is obvious. Klaatu never claimed to be the Beatles, but I think if it turned out back then that John, Paul, George, and Ringo were indeed the musicians behind Klaatu, all of this music would have been classics today.

According to one website the Morse code that begins towards the end of the song translates as follows : From Alfred , heed they sharpened ear A message we do bring Starship appears upon our sphere through Londons sky come spring.

This doesn't sound completely like The Beatles. It's more like The Beatles+Wings+Badfinger+Oasis. But the singer really sounds like Paul McCartney.
