this song was playing on a cheap ass turntable since I was in my mamma's guts, I'm white, which is a crime now days. speaking of a crime now days, real hard to find a black person who even knows who Josh was, or is still to me today. He's the greatest when it comes down to writing, Guitar and message. He is an important person in my whole life. he actually lived some of those hard times! not like todays bleeding heart crap, that I find is getting old to hear for my ears and soul

Sounds like the folk style 10 years later in the 60's. I bet ol' Pete Seeger dug him. My first time coming across Josh White.

So damn underrated. I only know about him because my old man handed me his old 60's albums. And I was captured by Josh's style immediately.

It's about that time of year again...

I've been singing this song ever since I learned it from my old 33 when I was around 14 yrs old. He's been one of my deepest musical inspirations. I sure wish I could find my old copy of the disk that had the full story of John Henry. It was on the B-side and was around 25 minutes long with lots of sub-themes and blues all interconnected to make one terrific and coherent story.
