I really connect with this song. My lifelong dream was to sing in opera, but nobody believed in me. My parents made it clear that they didn't support my decision to major in vocal performance. I had to learn to break the "useless fears and chains," cause I was determined to do what I wanted to do and had to strike up the courage to not care what anybody else thought, even if it was against my parent's wishes, So I fell, and the Phoenix did rise.... :)

I truly believe it is about a young person wanting to persue their dreams despite their parent's wishes. He's going to take the "dive" no matter what. "Whether or not the Phoenix may or may not arise"- meaning it is a risk that he is willing to take, even if it doesn't work out. Let me fall"- go my own way. "Someone I am, is waiting for my courage, the one I want, the one I will become will catch me"- He truly believes he can make his dreams come true and be who he wants to be.
