Not that familiar with John Lee Williamson - Sonny Boy No 1 - but this does sound uncannily like Rice Miller. So obviously No 1 was a big influence on No 2. Why he chose to name himself Sonny Boy is a mystery - & created a lot of confusion - but both were superlative singers & harp players & they left a legacy of fine blues for us to enjoy...
Inspired by him but Sonny Boy II also talked a big game. I hear he used to lie about his birthdate so he could say he was the first Sonny Boy and John Lee is the second one. Also the second Sonny Boy taught Howlin' Wolf how to play the harp. It's really interesting how connected these Blues Men were.
Hah too bad that's a picture of Sonny Boy WIlliamson II there, but even record companies seem to confuse them on purpose...what's the difference between 1 and 2?
I'm not all that keen on being the cleverest of all the nerds here, but having read all this, I was really astonished and just can't leave it uncorrected: the photo is alright. All that's wrong is the headline. We're actually listening to an early recording of Rice Miller, the second Sonny Boy.
