I bought this album when I was 20 years old. How did a 20 year old rocker get turned on to John Handy? Back then there were radio stations that played good music of all genres. I miss that.
John Handy - Hard Work..An all-times Jazz-Blues masterpiece. The saxophone solo, is out of this world... John Richard Handy III (born February 3, 1933, in Dallas, Texas) is an American jazz musician most commonly associated with the alto saxophone, although he also plays tenor and baritone saxophone, saxello, clarinet and oboe, and sings.
My musician husband shared this song with me the other night and next night we played at a private party, TWICE! The audience loved it and so did we! Had a lot of fun!
Love the 2 chords Cm7(11) and F7 with a 4 measure melody and the rest is up to a good grooving band that also can do some nice improvisation! A HIT!
I remember playing this song after I graduated from nursing school. I was so glad my "hard work" payed off! Had a new house, new career..was feeling good!
