Ah yes, Elvin is right in there with John as usual. Jones' marvelously complex, throbbing rhythms are in sync with Coltrane's lovely meanderings. This is of my favorite Classic Quartet tunes and never tire of hearing it.

Gives us goosebumps every time--the whole group is masterful; Elvin's poly-rhythmic push is fantastic!...............major props here!!

My 'teacher' John Riley led me to this tune. Blew me away.

A track from what I consider to be the companion LP to "John Coltrane/Johnny Hartman." The arrangement of this most amazing tune, even with its bare-bones, Jazz quartet-instrumentation, anticipates what would come to be called "art rock" by at least five years. Letting drummer Elvin Jones be the star of this track was a great choice... ...and it set the stage, in the ears of the audience, the record-buying public, for what Keith Moon, John Densmore, and Ginger Baker would be offering just a few years later. (Addendum, 8 months later:) I came upon Kurt Elling's live recording of this tune, with Ernie Watts, last night, and thought, "Wow, what an interesting groove." Of course it is:  It was lifted from this.
